"To me, photography is a meditation,
it is a path of soul-searching,
a process of self-discovery,
a precious way to see, feel and connect
with the world and fellow human beings."
“At the end of the day, when we remove ourselves from the outside noise, silence the voices in our head and connect with our deepest creative longing, this is what we all want:
Create a body of work that's aligned with our voice, our vision, our way of seeing and being in the world. A body of work that's uniquely ours. A deep, meaningful, authentic photography legacy.”
I'm Barbara Bernini. A street photographer, photography educator, author, adventurer and collector of experiences. I'm passionate about and forever in love with street photography: I believe in the beauty of the ordinary moment, and in the importance of sharing stories seen through our heart and lens with the world.
I love connecting with fellow street photographers and teaching the art of street photography. My approach to this beautiful art and craft is different: I focus on connection and creativity, on making deeper photographs instead of better ones. On building a meaningful body of work and a legacy.
Based on years of personal experience, I have created a new way of approaching street photography. A way that's natural instead of stressful, connected instead of ego-based, intentional instead of random, heart-centered instead of technical, joyful instead of fear-driven.
I know your time is precious, and I'm honored to be part of your creative journey.
The Street Spirit approach to photography is for you if:
You're passionate about street photography.
You're a creative seeker. You're not completely satisfied with your work, and you know there's more available to you.
You realize it's not about the camera but about the photographer. You're ready to work on yourself as much as you work on your photography
You want to:
Close the gap between what the photograph looks like in your head the moment you make it, and the end result when you see your work in the digital darkroom.
Be in control of your creative process. To know what to do, how and when to make the photographs your heart longs for.
Find your voice in street photography, and to be able to express it every single time with ease and confidence
Make deeper photographs aligned with your vision and style
Feel connected to your photography, whether you're in the streets or at your desk
Build a meaningful, curated body of work that stands out and is uniquely yours
Overcome your fears and turn them into creative freedom
Take your work to the next level with a coherent portfolio that's ready to be shared, showcased or sold
Do photography in a new, different, personal, joyful and empowering way
What makes me different?
1. I'm one of the few street photographers who make a living with their photography
I always loved photography but I only started taking my work (and myself) seriously in 2008 when I bought my first DSLR. Although I experimented with different kinds of photography at that time, I was deeply attracted to seeing the streets of the world in black and white. And when I fully committed to my path, my life changed completely. In 2014, I went to Shanghai for a 6-week photography assignment, and I stayed for five years. I traveled all around Asia, and when I started selling my work to private collectors, I stopped working on assignment and focused solely on my own work. In 2018, I moved to Barcelona where I currently live and work as a full-time street photographer.
2. I know how to build a powerful body of work
I have published three photography monographs, and I'm currently working on the next one. I've held several photography exhibitions. I continue building bodies of work and I share and sell my work on a regular basis. I am committed to my life's work and to my creative projects.
3. I walk my talk and practice what I teach
The tools I share in my webinars, workshops and with my private mentoring clients are the same tools that I use in my work on a daily basis. I'm honest, open and very candid, because I live and breathe this work. Your photography matters to me as much as my own, and I want you to succeed and live your dream. Because if I can do it, you can do it to. I believe in you. Your work matters.
4. I'm a lifelong creative entrepreneur
I've been making a living with my creativity since I was 18 years old. I've always been self-employed, and I have a vast entrepreneurial and creative experience. I've been there, done it, got the t-shirt. I've made mistakes and failed many times so that you don't have to. I'm with you in the trenches: I have faced your fears, I have overcome your challenges. I know how wonderful and challenging this path is. I get you.
